Bringing the SPICE to Community Climate Action
Big congratulations to Osman Lab PhD candidate Clara Medina and Wetland Ecosystems Group PhD Student Mavis Stone for receiving a SPICE Grant to launch their new initiative, Community-Based Researchers for Local Climate and Disaster Resilience! Building on two years of collaboration around disaster risk reduction and community-centered research, the duo is creating a program that connects Doerr School of Sustainability PhD students with Bay Area community-based organizations tackling climate and disaster resilience. Through expert panels, volunteering opportunities, and shared learning experiences, the initiative will support more equitable and grounded approaches to climate research at Stanford. The project is part of Stanford’s SPICE (Student Projects for Intellectual Community Enhancement) program, which supports student-led efforts to build vibrant, cross-disciplinary academic communities.
